Things to consider when choosing private health insurers

Cost is understandably a key driver for any business decision, however there is much more to consider when choosing PMI than simply the bottom-line premium. Policy flexibility is important, so you don’t end up paying for things you’ll never need. It’s also worth ensuring you have the right level of cover so you’re not caught out needing treatment for something you’re not covered for.

Choosing the ideal product to spend company money on can be simpler than you may think.  When you speak with one of our business advisers, they will discuss all of your company’s specific needs before advising you on the best and most cost effective policy for your business, whether you are new to private health cover or you are considering switching.

Before you make your decision, it is important to know different insurers will offer you different policy options. For instance, an insurer may not cover any previous or existing conditions. It’s always a good idea to check exactly what options you do have.

If you decide to take a policy with Norwich Union Healthcare, we offer the following types of personal medical underwriting (please note that policy terms and conditions will apply):

Full Medical Underwriting When applying for private health cover, you disclose your medical history. Any pre-existing conditions (or any conditions related to them) are excluded from cover, unless the insurance company agrees to accept them.

Moratorium A moratorium is where your insurer doesn’t cover any conditions which have existed in the last five years before joining. Conditions may become eligible if members don’t have symptoms, or receive treatment or medical advice for a continuous period of two years from the date of entry.

Medical History Disregardedall members of schemes covering 20 employees or more are fully covered, regardless of any pre-existing conditions.
