My hospital visit

This guide, packed with useful facts about hospitals as well as games and fun activities, is designed to be read with your child. It provides information about areas of the hospital, the routines, and what the hospital staff actually do to help you put your child at ease for their first visit.

Personal information

Here your child is invited to fill in some information about their hospital visit such as the hospital name, their name, the ward name, nurse's name and the date of the visit. This is so that the guide can be kept as a souvenir.

A tour

This section covers all of the different areas in the hospital and what they are used for. It may help you prepare your child for what lies ahead.

Who's who

In this section we cover all of the health professionals and hospital staff to explain what their role is in relation to your child.

What your day will be like

This section explains how a typical day at the hospital may turn out and whom they might meet during the day. The child is encouraged to talk to the grown ups around to understand their treatment better.

Useful things to bring

In this section we explain that your child will be able to have his/her own belongings and comforts and that anything forgotten can easily be brought along by mum or dad.

Getting better at home

Here, we focus on the return home from hospital. We gently encourage rest, eating healthily and regularly and regular check ups with the doctor.

Glossary of terms

This is to help you explain difficult words and concepts to your child.

My Routine

A timetable is prepared so that your child can fill it in and keep record of their hospital visit.

Games

A list of games is prepared to entertain during the hospital visit. These include picture games, card games, Chinese whispers, writing games, etc.
