What are the Medical Journalism Awards?
More than ever, consumers are responsible for managing their own healthcare. They have to make decisions based on what they understand and journalists play a critical role in helping educate them, as well as informing specialist audiences. The Medical Journalism Awards recognise and reward the talent, enterprise and responsibility of those in the fields of medical and related financial journalism. Norwich Union Healthcare has sponsored the Medical Journalism Awards since it started 16 years ago. The awards are run jointly by Norwich Union Healthcare and the Medical Journalists' Association.
Who are the MJA?
The Medical Journalists' Association aims to promote the very best standards in medical journalism. The Association provides channels for the discussion of subjects of common interest to medical journalists. The events aim to improve the quality of medical journalism in the UK and to improve understanding between medical journalists and the health and medical professions. The Association works to create opportunities for networking, and to assist medical journalists as they pursue their profession. Events have included lunchtime meetings with leading scientists, doctors and politicians, training days, weekend symposia, briefings on topics of special interest and visits to specialist hospitals and health-related companies, both in the UK and overseas. Membership is open to journalists and authors who spend the majority of their working time in writing or broadcasting on medical or health subjects. Affiliate membership is open to people who write or broadcast substantial amounts of material on health or medicine, other than advertising copy.
