Canopy keeps RAC Auto Windscreens customers on the road in all weathers

RAC Auto Windscreens is keeping hundreds of fleet customers outon the road whatever the weather – thanks to a speciallydesigned canopy.

The under cover canopy, being rolled out to RAC AutoWindscreen’s 145 sites across the country, keeps dry thebonding material used in glass replacement. Its unique design wasdeveloped by RAC technicians to reduce the number of working daysbeing lost by fleet vehicles that needed to get back out on theroad as quickly as possible.

The canopy was revealed as an essential and valuable piece ofequipment in trials – a survey of the workload of RACtechnicians at five different sites showed it was used in 212 outof a total of 280 working days.

“Modern glass replacement techniques are highlysophisticated. But up till now we and our 250 Fleet customers havebeen at the mercy of the British weather,” said ChrisBonsall, technical manager at RAC Auto Windscreens. “You needabsolutely dry conditions for the bonding material to workproperly. Before we had the canopies, we had to wait for the rainto hold off or bring vehicles back to our site before replacingwindows and windscreens – causing frustration and wasted timeoff the road for the customer and for us!”

“This makes for even happier customers,” said JohnTutt, director of operations. “In the past, we had tore-arrange glass replacement appointments again and again atcustomer sites because of the weather. The new canopy means that weare even nearer to our aim of providing a service that is‘right first time, every time’.”

The all-weather canopy which takes just minutes to assembleand take down, was developed by RAC Auto Windscreens in partnershipwith Broadview Blinds, of Poole, Dorset.
