Driving restrictions

Both the age and experience of drivers are well recognised road risk factors. Further, as a generalisation, the fewer individuals permitted to drive company vehicles, the more familiar they will be with the vehicle characteristics and controls, resulting in safer journeys.

Wherever practical, employers should aim to restrict the driving of company vehicles to nominated individuals, preferably to authorised employees only.

If it is necessary to extend driving authority to for example, spouses or partners, then consideration ought to be given to applying a minimum age (eg over 25) and experience (eg minimum 2 years full licence) criteria. Non employee

In every case, a satisfactory Vehicle Driving Application Form should be obtained and the driving licence checked.

Note - Motor insurance contracts will invariably contain restrictions to preclude business use (other than that of the Policyholder) and limitations such as racing and competitions.
