Foreign Curency

Don't forget your tickets, passport... and your money

Why should you have to pay commission on your foreign currency when you head off on holiday? Exactly, you shouldn't.

The market has spoken. That's why it's easy to find commission-free currency exchange these days - and the Internet just makes it easier.

Not only can you buy your currency without paying a handling fee - if you go back to the same outlet when you get back, you'll often find that you can exchange what's left back to Sterling for free as well.

Our Top Tips for managing your holiday money:

  • DO take out a travel insurance policy - this will protect your cash if it's stolen or lost.
  • DON'T take more cash than you need - the last thing you want is to lose it or have it stolen.
    • Debit cards like Maestro® are accepted all over the world.
  • DO think about taking some Travellers Cheques - they can only be used by you and can be easily replaced if lost or stolen.
    • If your hotel or accommodation has a safe, use it to store your money & passports.
  • DON'T take money out of a cash machine on your credit card - you'll pay interest on it.
  • DO order your currency in good time - no one likes a last minute-rush.
  • DO think about a money belt to keep your cash out of the reach of pickpockets.
