Snow sports are a worldwide leisure phenomenon. Skiing and snowboarding isn't without risk though. For instance, the 2006 season was the worst for skiing fatalities in the French Alps since records began with 57 deaths on the pistes - plus a record number of avalanches across the Alps over 2005/06, 102 of them fatal.**

Delayed departure
- £25 per person, per trip for each 12 hours you're delayed.
- Up to £5,000 per person, per trip if you abandon your holiday after 24 hours delay.
Missed departure - Up to £1,000 per person insured, per trip
Loss of passport - Up to £350 per person insured, per trip
Abandonment - Up to £5,000 per person insured, per trip if you have to cut short your break
Hijack and mugging - £50 per 24-hour period you can't reach your destination per person insured, per trip
Delayed baggage - Up to £150 after a 12-hour period, per person insured per trip
UK Motor Breakdown - Cover if you breakdown on the way to or from your UK departure/arrival point
Pet Care - £25 a day up to a maximum of £250 if your cat or dog receives in-patient veterinary treatment as a result of suffering accidental injury while you are on your trip

- Up to £30 per person insured per day to a maximum of £300.
Avalanche delay

- Up to £20 per day, per person insured, per trip up to £200.
